GenRec: A Preference-Oriented Generative Framework for Large-Scale Recommendation

Generative Retrieval (GR) offers a promising paradigm for recommendation through next-token prediction (NTP). However, scaling it to large-scale industrial systems introduces three challenges: (i) within a single request, the identical model inputs may produce inconsistent outputs due to the pagination request mechanism; (ii) the prohibitive cost of encoding long user behavior sequences with multi-token item representations based on semantic IDs, and (iii) aligning the generative policy with nuanced user preference signals. We present GenRec, a preference-oriented generative framework deployed on the JD App that addresses above challenges within a single decoder-only architecture. For training objective, we propose Page-wise NTP task, which supervises over an entire interaction page rather than each interacted item individually, providing denser gradient signal and resolving the one-to-many ambiguity of point-wise training. On the prefilling side, an asymmetric linear Token Merger compresses multi-token Semantic IDs in the prompt while preserving full-resolution decoding, reducing input length by ~2X with negligible accuracy loss. To further align outputs with user satisfaction, we introduce GRPO-SR, a reinforcement learning method that pairs Group Relative Policy Optimization with NLL regularization for training stability, and employs Hybrid Rewards combining a dense reward model with a relevance gate to mitigate reward hacking. In month-long online A/B tests serving production traffic, GenRec achieves 9.5% improvement in click count and 8.7% in transaction count over the existing pipeline.

RefReward-SR: LR-Conditioned Reward Modeling for Preference-Aligned Super-Resolution

Recent advances in generative super-resolution (SR) have greatly improved visual realism, yet existing evaluation and optimization frameworks remain misaligned with human perception. Full-Reference and No-Reference metrics often fail to reflect perceptual preference, either penalizing semantically plausible details due to pixel misalignment or favoring visually sharp but inconsistent artifacts. Moreover, most SR methods rely on ground-truth (GT)-dependent distribution matching, which does not necessarily correspond to human judgments. In this work, we propose RefReward-SR, a low-resolution (LR) reference-aware reward model for preference-aligned SR. Instead of relying on GT supervision or NR evaluation, RefReward-SR assesses high-resolution (HR) reconstructions conditioned on their LR inputs, treating the LR image as a semantic anchor. Leveraging the visual-linguistic priors of a Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLM), it evaluates semantic consistency and plausibility in a reasoning-aware manner. To support this paradigm, we construct RefSR-18K, the first large-scale LR-conditioned preference dataset for SR, providing pairwise rankings based on LR-HR consistency and HR naturalness. We fine-tune the MLLM with Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO) using LR-conditioned ranking rewards, and further integrate GRPO into SR model training with RefReward-SR as the core reward signal for preference-aligned generation. Extensive experiments show that our framework achieves substantially better alignment with human judgments, producing reconstructions that preserve semantic consistency while enhancing perceptual plausibility and visual naturalness. Code, models, and datasets will be released upon paper acceptance.

GDPO-SR: Group Direct Preference Optimization for One-Step Generative Image Super-Resolution

Recently, reinforcement learning (RL) has been employed for improving generative image super-resolution (ISR) performance. However, the current efforts are focused on multi-step generative ISR, while one-step generative ISR remains underexplored due to its limited stochasticity. In addition, RL methods such as Direct Preference Optimization (DPO) require the generation of positive and negative sample pairs offline, leading to a limited number of samples, while Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO) only calculates the likelihood of the entire image, ignoring local details that are crucial for ISR. In this paper, we propose Group Direct Preference Optimization (GDPO), a novel approach to integrate RL into one-step generative ISR model training. First, we introduce a noise-aware one-step diffusion model that can generate diverse ISR outputs. To prevent performance degradation caused by noise injection, we introduce an unequal-timestep strategy to decouple the timestep of noise addition from that of diffusion. We then present the GDPO strategy, which integrates the principle of GRPO into DPO, to calculate the group-relative advantage of each online generated sample for model optimization. Meanwhile, an attribute-aware reward function is designed to dynamically evaluate the score of each sample based on its statistics of smooth and texture areas. Experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of GDPO in enhancing the performance of one-step generative ISR models. Code: https://github.com/Joyies/GDPO.
