The Dutch company, Innatera, has released what it claims to be "the world’s first commercially available neuromorphic microcontroller chip," called Pulsar. Pulsar may spur widespread adoption of the neuromorphic technology through its capability to significantly lower latency and reduce power consumption while running artificial intelligence applications. Neuromorphic devices often imitate the workings of the brain, which makes them energy-efficient, consuming only one-fifth of the power required compared to conventional technology. As such, this development may have a meaningful impact on artificial intelligence sensors, both by reducing power consumption and simplifying overall device design. By integrating all the functions together, Pulsar enables real-time detection and analysis of sensor data using ultra-low power. This can extend the battery life of devices like smart doorbells and make them more cost-effective and energy-efficient through the reduced need for complex data signal-processing pipelines.

DUTCH FIRMS LAUNCH "WORLD's FIRST" NEURORMORPHIC MICROCONTROLLER CHIP TO BE USED IN AI SENSORS

The ability of neuromorphic processors to dramatically reduce energy consumption compared to conventional technology for certain applications is being exploited to push Spiking Neural Network Chip technology into the mass market, with Dutch firm Innatera launching what it claims is the world's first commercially available instrument.

“Most AI accelerators today have to deal with a difficult trade-off between performance and power. They either run simplified AI models to consume less power, or ramp up their accuracy and the amount of power they need. With Pulsar, you don't have to give up anything,” says Sumeet Kumar, cofounder and CEO of Inn
