[BUG] Error 500 after switching to a newer model on old chat, can't send messages or share
So recently I've tried to switch the model on one of my older chats from last year to a newer one (From Command-R+ to Qwen3-235B-A22B). I just selected the model and pressed "Accept".
Unfortunately, that didn't seem to fully work. The model on the bottom of the UI still showed as "Model: CohereLabs/c4ai-command-r-plus-08-2024", and when I tried to send a new message, I got an error "Server response contains error: 500"
I can't even share the chat to duplicate it as it returns "Error while sharing conversation, try again."
I'm not sure what causes this, as when I clicked on "Download prompt and parameters" to check what's up with the chat, it seems to have switched to a correct chat template (from the one that Command-R+ uses to ChatML that Qwen models use), and the model selected there is "Qwen/Qwen3-235B-A22B"
Okay, so I found out that the bug happens on all of my old chats where I've used my assistant. Sucks.
OKAY. So I found out that IF my chats that were made with Command-R+ I have to update to Command-R+ again in order for them to not be broken.
Update: I turns out I can't share ANY conversations. Both new and old.

So to recap:
- You had an old assistant that was using Command R+
- You created a chat with that assistant
- That model is no longer available
- You switched from the old model to Qwen3-235B-A22B
And now sending new messages gives you 500 error. Is that correct ?
Any chance you could open the developer console in your browser (press F12 usually) and look there if there's an errorIdin there ? Should be a long string of numbers and characters, I can use it to find out in the logs what's happening.
Hi there, sorry for replying late. Yes, I think you've got everything right. I had an assistant that was using Command-R+, chatted with it last year, now when I tried to switch the model in the chat it doesn't let me send any message to the new chat, including regenerating responses for older messages (with branching).
The developer console shows nothing when the error happens.
