@nyuuzyou Please do listen to stories like this. @Ihateao3copywriteinfringment (and I seriously hope to god it doesn't end up in that dataset) brings up a good point I haven't considered so far: Author notes. Some of us write personal notes preceding our fics, and that's not something we want to be shared outside of AO3, outside of readers. PLEASE DO LISTEN TO US ABOUT CONSENT.

This is legit the reason I’m fighting them in here. Like. Sorry I don’t want you to have a fairly detailed account of me being abused by my ex for legit years? It’s not just the work you’re stealing here man. It’s my testimony towards the mental, physical, and spiritual abuse he put me through.

I wouldn’t bet on them having a heart. One of the fics their little bot stole included multiple authors notes about me being abused. I hope that ends up in their data set.

Also you realize you’re just making ao3 worse right? Like I just went and privated the fics you stole. I know many other authors who have done so. You’re just making the site harder to access for people without accounts.

Also I hope ao3 bans your ip address, because aside from the strain you put on the website (cause scraping millions of fic doesn’t just happen, each one is a request to the website which can cause major issues -for whoever is reading this who doesn’t know a lot about tech) which is bad enough, you’ve pretty explicitly broken every single one of their rules. Personally I don’t think you should be able to read any fan work ever again. In fact I think if you try to join any fandom they should know what you did THEIF.

The OTW are the only ones making money off of you. If a non-profit organization does the opposite of their principles, there are big questions about the rest of their activities, including financial ones

Stop trying to shift blame. We chose to have our fics hosted there. We don’t consent to you taking our work and doing whatever it is you thought you could achieve. Stop this, delete the data set. And go outside.
